Printables – 3DSourced https://www.3dsourced.com The Best 3D Printer Buyer's Guide Resource & 3D Printer Reviews Thu, 07 Mar 2024 16:07:55 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.3 https://www.3dsourced.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/cropped-3Dsourced-3d-32x32.png Printables – 3DSourced https://www.3dsourced.com 32 32 12 Best Thingiverse Alternatives For STL Files in 2024 https://www.3dsourced.com/guides/thingiverse-alternatives/ Tue, 09 Jan 2024 04:00:00 +0000 https://the3dsourced.wpengine.com/?p=18511 Read more]]> Here’s our picks for the best Thingiverse alternatives if you’re looking for more advanced models, a faster site, or a more secure repository.

Thingiverse is probably the most well-known 3D printing file repository, featuring an easy-to-use search engine, a large number of free projects and files, and a useful set of filters to find what you’re looking for.

For example, searching “vintage Star Wars” turns up four pages of results – more than any other.

However…

Reasons NOT To Use Thingiverse

Thingiverse has suffered a large number of setbacks recently. The most obvious change even to a relative beginner is that the combined zip file downloads, once a boon for complicated projects listed on the site, no longer function. Repeated data breaches have made it clear to most that Thingiverse is not exactly safe.

Some creators are pulling files from the Thingiverse due to its unsafe image. This leaves users in the unfortunate position of being aware a file was there once, but is no longer present. A frustrating situation at best.

As well as these security issues, Thingiverse is known for being slow – largely due to having so many ads. Even with a good ad blocker, you’ll have trouble navigating the site as it loads background ads before showing you the file you want to see.

While Thingiverse has become popular being the largest site with 100% free files, this comes with a number of caveats. They often still lack commercial restrictions, particularly for anything that might be used in any commercial capacity.

Fortunately, there are several alternative sites with hundreds of thousands of 3D files – depending on what you are looking for.

A Thingiverse Alternative Needs:

 • A large assortment of available project files.
 • A large selection of free files.
 • A functional and fairly easy-to-use search function.
 • A straightforward functionality that doesn’t hide the files or function.
 • The ability for creators to include recommendations about printing their files.
 • Files available in STL, OBJ, or other 3D printing compatible formats.

This last is arguably the most flexible, as programs like Spin3D and GreenToken allow users to convert between file types with what is usually high accuracy. Still, for those without an understanding of file conversion, the right file type is a necessity.

1. MyMiniFactory

 • Free or Paid: Paid
 • Mandatory Signup: Yes

MyMiniFactory has a variety of files, although with a main focus on gaming miniatures.

For gaming miniatures, and even other types of miniatures, MyMiniFactory is second to none. Featuring not only a variety of creators, but batch purchases and crowdfunding-style campaigns, there are myriad options for miniature 28mm enthusiasts.

These paid options include a large number of available files and projects like articulated animals and recognizable figures from popular franchises like Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy.

MyMiniFactory mainly deals in miniatures for gaming, and while there are exceptions, they are few and far between.

There are also promoted premium files for sale. These promoted results include some nice items, but may not work for you if you’re only looking for free 3D printing files.

2. Cults3D

 • Free or Paid: Both
 • Mandatory Signup: Yes

Cults by contrast to some options like MyMiniFactory has a much wider assortment of material with less of a focus on miniatures.

Cults requires a login for downloads, and as a result age limitation on accounts is little problem, as it does host NSFW content (this can be toggled off if you’d prefer to steer clear of such models, or are planning on perusing the site with your kids).

That being said, Cults3D has a much wider variety of projects on offer than MyMiniFactory, with prints ranging from this Aku Aku bust to the ever-popular low-poly fox. You can even use Cults to find seasonal decorations for your home or garden.

While some might bristle at the added step, in the process Cults manages to save all downloads previously selected on an account.

3. Printables.com

 • Free or Paid: Free
 • Mandatory Signup: No

Printables.com is run by PRUSA, makers of some of the most popular DIY 3D printer kits of all time. The search interface is someone unusual in structure – the most noticeable difference, although not in itself a bad thing, is including a list of users with names relating to your search at the end.

Printables is similar to Thingiverse in that all files found on it are free, and there are a lot to choose from, like action figures, practical prints, and even wearables items like jewelry. And because Prusa themselves sell 3D printers, they have no need for the obnoxious ads that plague Thingiverse users.

There is an unusual similarity to Thingiverse at its prime, namely that Printables.com allows one to pick individual files from a set, as well as having a download option for the entirety of each project. This is wonderful for those who want a particular miniature out of a set, a single upgrade part for a game or machine, or single variation among a selection of STL files.

4. CGTrader

 • Free or Paid: Paid
 • Mandatory Signup: No

CGTrader is well known in amateur animation circles, but is also useful for makers interested in 3D printing. Available file formats are listed clearly, making it much easier for someone to confirm their slicer software is compatible, as not all files on this site are specifically designed with 3D printing in mind.

The search functionality includes the ability to filter by file type, and license – useful to anyone worried about commercial applications or getting caught up with IP issues, so we recommend you take a look at the licensing rules and laws for each model before committing to downloading it. Furthermore, the detailed and active comment sections are a wonderful addition, usually including fantastic tips on any difficulties one might run into with a file. The files are generally of very high quality, like this cat model and this spacecraft.

5. TurboSquid

 • Free or Paid: Paid
 • Mandatory Signup: Yes

Turbosquid makes itself user-friendly right from the front page. In addition to the search panel, several nice icons indicate the ability to check for various types of 3D file, from those commonly used for printing to those designed to work with various animation and game engines.

It is worth noting that many of the files are not cheap, some costing hundreds of dollars. This wolf, for example, is just shy of $1,000, but this collection of standard people figures is only $72.

This is because it is a broad site with many different files available. This can range from items for use by hobbyists and amateurs, all the way to detailed files designed for use in high-budget projects.

6. PinShape

 • Free or Paid: Free
 • Available Files: 70,000+
 • Mandatory Signup: Yes

Pinshape is a smaller name in the 3D file repository game, but one with clear structural similarities to the bigger players. Pinshape has a nice search function, and makes it easy to filter to only view free files with a couple of clicks or swipes. It didn’t take long for me to find the excellent and free lightsaber model and this sound box, for example.

Pinshape specializes in STL files intended for 3D printing, unlike many services. For those uncomfortable with file conversion, or simply unsure about compatibility for those models intended originally for another purpose, that will be greatly appreciated.

Pinshape has a smaller library than most, so more specific searches will yield few if any results, so it’s better used for general 3D printing project ideas if you don’t have anything particular in mind.

7. Thangs.com

 • Free or Paid: Both
 • Mandatory Signup: Yes

Thangs.com is a relatively new and curious case. In addition to being a search engine for multiple different 3D printing and 3D file sites, it also hosts many files itself.

The search provides a wide variety of results, whether used to find files directly uploaded to the site, or on any of the others that can be checked – although the results are occasionally rather broad in interpretation. As with most such sites, there are nice toggles to choose from if one wants to see only free or also paid options, giving an easy way to handle the matter. There are a lot of files to chose from like Christmas Baby Yoda, cosplay Pikachu, and this adorable German shepherd wall art.

8. YouMagine

 • Free or Paid: Free
 • Available Files: 20,000+
 • Mandatory Signup: No

YouMagine is an entirely open-source library where creators are urged to share their imaginative designs with fellow designers free of charge. While you have the option to sign up, there’s no obligation to, and you’re even encouraged to review the various files and prints to help your fellow 3D printing enthusiasts learn and grow.
YouMagine is designed for any 3D printer user of any experience level, featuring complex car designs and creative home decor to name just a couple. If you’re new to 3D printing, you can peruse their quick prints collections like this one, designed for newcomers who are looking for an easy learning curve.

9. GrabCAD

 • Free or Paid: Free
 • Available Files: 5 million+
 • Mandatory Signup: No

GrabCAD is a community-driven space for engineers and other 3D modeling professionals to share and update their designs with colleagues and like-minded creators. With plentiful news updates and challenges with actual awards and prizes, they encourage active participation while not strictly forcing you to create an account.

The community is one of the largest on the net, with over 12 million members and an impossibly large library of files to choose from, model boats and plane files can be found alongside animal puzzles, so there should be something for everyone.

Just be warned that, while GrabCAD does offer tutorials and help to newcomers, it’s not a place for the uninitiated, so it’s mainly only worth a look if you’re a professional (or at least experienced) in 3D modeling.

10. Zortrax

 • Free or Paid: Free
 • Available Files: 100+
 • Mandatory Signup: No

Zortrax is less a dedicated library for CAD files and more a 3D printer and 3D printing services company. Though their relatively small library is still worth a look for anyone looking to cut their teeth in 3D printing with useful prints like filament holders or more fun projects like South Park characters or this adorable Ferris wheel.

Zortrax offers a variety of services, software, and hardware alongside their collection of free CAD files, so it’s a good first stop for anyone looking to get an idea of what they can expect from 3D printing, as well as get some novel ideas for what to print first or next.

11. Yeggi

 • Free or Paid: Both
 • Mandatory Signup: No

Yeggi is my personal favorite and go-to when writing project articles. It is not a library in and of itself, but rather a collection of STL files from all over the internet from trustworthy and notable sites like Cults3D, Gambody, CGTrader, MyMiniFactory, Printables, and – of course – Thingiverse just to name a few.

This means that the quality and price of each model varies depending on the designer and platform, though if you’re looking for a wealth of different models, files, and ideas with a simple click of the search bar, then Yeggi is the jack-of-all-trades site for you.

12. 3DExport

 • Free or Paid: Paid
 • Available Files: 273,000+
 • Mandatory Signup: Yes

3DExport is a great place to find 3D models, but it’s worth noting that not all of them are designed for 3D printing. Like CGTrader, 3DExport specializes in putting up 3D models for sale for a variety of uses, including animation, videogame design, and interior decoration blueprinting alongside 3D printing.

You will either have to make sure the model you are about to buy is optimized for 3D printing by coming in a usable file for your slicer software, or ensure you have the know-how and resources to reformat them yourself.

Here we’ll look at all the best and coolest Harry Potter STL files from across the books and movies to reignite your passion for the wizarding world – most of which are free!

Whether you want a figurine of your favorite character, or a golden snitch of your very own, you’re bound to find something to enjoy in this list.

Top Picks

My Favorite Harry Potter 3D Prints

 1. Time-Turner: Doubles as a piece of fandom jewelry and an egg timer.
 2. Hogwarts Legacy Wands: A variety of grips and styles to choose from.
 3. Goblet of Fire: Suitable even for smaller 3D printers.
 4. Hogwarts Model: A detailed model of the iconic castle.
 5. Checkers and Chess Set: With characters from the Harry Potter story.
 6. Golden Snitch: Perfect for decoration or as a collectible.
 7. Open Book: A simple intro to hinges.
 8. Niffler from Fantastic Beasts: A cute multi-colored model.
 9. Cookie Cutters: Including Harry’s scar and the Golden Snitch.
 10. Hedwig: A detailed model of this fan-favorite.
 11. Harry Potter and Voldemort Figures: Detailed models designed for scalability and impact.

1. 3D Printed Harry Potter Time-Turner

This clever hourglass aesthetic and gyroscopic movement makes the Time-Turner one of the coolest 3D prints out there.

Designed by a fan, it can actually be used as a real egg timer as well as fandom jewelry!

The design comes as five separate prints which need to be assembled when complete. Fortunately, the video above features a full tutorial on how to put it all together so you can be sure it looks as good as Hermione’s.

2. Hogwarts Legacy Wands

 • Download: 3D-Mon
 • Designer: 3demon
 • Price: $2+

Hogwarts Legacy is all about customization and inserting yourself into the wizarding world of Harry Potter in a way once possible only through vivid imagination and fanfiction.

That’s why, of all the 3D printed Harry Potter wands out there, I’ve chosen to include the STL files for these, so you can make something that feels unique without needing to edit anything in 3D modeling software.

With 8 different want types to choose from and 20 different grips, you can create your own wand for display or cosplay as you like. The files do cost money, but at $9 for the whole set, it’s still a steal.

With different colored filaments or some creative painting, you can 3D print a wand that’s specific to your own personal tastes.

3. 3D Printed Goblet of Fire

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: danwaynay
 • Price: Free
3D Printed Goblet of Fire

The fourth book in the series, Goblet of Fire, has been my favorite Harry Potter entry since I first read it at 8 years old. So I had to mention the eponymous goblet as a 3D printed Harry Potter project for the like-minded.

The print is easy, and has been altered to come in two separate parts which need neither rafts nor supports to print well. This means even smaller 3D printers will have no trouble managing this larger-than-most project.

4. Hogwarts Castle

Six of the seven Harry Potter books take place almost entirely within Higwarts’ grounds, earning the gothic academy a place in the hearts of many fans. And this 3D printed Hogwarts Castle perfectly recreates the arcane architecture of the school.

Surprisingly, this fully sized print doesn’t need any rafts or supports, though it is worth noting that its large size means it may not be a suitable task for printers with build volumes under 220 x 220 x 250mm.

If you want your own 3D printed Hogwarts but don’t have access to a larger 3D printer, then you can instead check out this free mini version instead.

3D Printed Hogwarts

5. Harry Potter Checkers and Chess Set

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: TheMiro59
 • Price: Free

Harry Potter 3D prints don’t just have to be decorative, and of all the different games and puzzles you can 3D print, my personal favorite is this combo chess and checkers set. Being no stranger to 3D printed chess sets, I had to mention this clever and highly detailed print on this list.

The design takes models from different designers across Thingiverse and rescales them as working chess and checkers pieces made from simple PLA.

Just be warned that the full set isn’t just a 3D printing project, and the plywood box and separate board will need some extra elbow grease to look as good as it does in the video.

6. 3D Printed Golden Snitch

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: JOLANDMT
 • Price: $0.55

The Golden Stitch is natural go-to for 3D printing some cool memorabilia to add to your collection. And while this print won’t hold up through actual games, it’s an excellent decorative piece for any quidditch fan.

This high-quality print is the best I could find, and at a steal of a price. It needs only 25% infill, though to match the resolution of the finished project seen above you’re going want to make sure the print precision is no lower than 1.5mm.

7. 3D Printed Harry Potter Open Book

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: EUNNY
 • Price: $1.00

This charming 3D printed Harry Potter open book is designed with a hinged structure that opens to reveal an adorable wizard-hatted owl along with the famous HP typeset.

This video is a simple tutorial designed so even 3D printing beginners can make this complex-looking project with confidence and ease.

8. 3D Printable Niffler

Of all the eponymous beasts seen in the Fantastic Beasts series, few have found their way into fans’ hearts quite as much as the Niffler, an adorable little creature that’s arguably platypus hardware running on magpie software.

This high-quality print was modified from its original to accommodate multi-colored printing to reduce the post-print painting times.

Just be aware that this ia deceptively complex print. Before starting, be sure to triple-check your support settings, and consider adding rafts to ensure success.

9. Harry Potter Cookie Cutters

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: DAVIDRUIZO
 • Price: $2.99
3D Printed Harry potter Cookie Cutters

3D printed cookie cutters are a fun way to spice up your next baking session. This collection features the shapes of Harry’s scar, the Golden Snitch, a Deathly Hallows symbol, and the likeness of Harry himself.

Please remember that not all filaments are advisable for use with edible goods. So before you dive into these fun Harry Potter prints, I recommend first checking out our guide to food-safe filaments.

10. 3D Printed Hedwig

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Peter Farell
 • Price: Free

Hedwig’s sacrifice is one of the most heartbreaking moments in all of Harry Potter. Fans of our silent yet important hero can remember him through this 3D printed Hedwig figure for their Harry Potter collection.

What makes this model impressive is how it was scaled up from a low-poly version to look amazingly detailed and real.

For the best results, I recommend printing on a resin printer if you have access to one before carefully curing it for a high-quality figure you can be proud to display.

11. Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort Figures

3D Printed Voldemort

Finally, no list of the coolest Harry Potter 3D prints would be complete without the two main characters facing off.

These relatively cheap files include models for both Harry Potter and Voldemort, and they’re designed to be fully scalable in your slicer software so you can print them with no issues even if you have a smaller 3D printer, or make them larger than life for a truly imposing tableau.

This print is of stunning quality, right down to the intense expressions on the characters’ faces, and is a print that any Harry Potter fan would be remiss to overlook.

These accessories are much cheaper than the average store-bought gear, and mostly easy to print for people of all experience levels.

This all-in-one 3D printed golf accessory acts as a ball marker, divot fixer, and even has a bottle opener for those more casual outings.

Available in a variety of styles, from 8-ball to the Batman and Punisher symbols, you’re sure to find one that’s right for you.

3D Printed Golf Accessories

Because of the bottle opener, you’ll want to print using a particularly strong filament like ABS or nylon with 100% infill so the multi-tool can withstand the pressure of use without breaking.

2. 3D Printed Adjustable Golf Tee

3D Printed Golf Tee

Avid golfers will know that the height at which you position the ball is very important to get that first shot just right.

So one of the most useful 3D printed golf accessories is this easily adjustable tee that you can alter in 5mm increments to suit your swing.

Because the top needs to be both flexible and tough, the designer recommends printing it in TPU filament due to its high shock absorption to keep the tee in good condition.

3. Golf Club Stand

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: DWDesigns
 • Price: $2

Sometimes it can be annoying fishing your different clubs out of your bag or finding them in the dirty grass. That’s where this 3D printed golf accessory comes in very handy, providing a simple solution for easy access.

3D Printed Golf Club Stand

It’s a very simple print, only needing an external stand (which can be a golf club too) to keep it upright. You can print it with any filament provided it’s not too flexible, like PLA.

4. Golf Ball Cleaner

 • Download: CGTrader
 • Designer: jacoferrari92
 • Price: $5.99
Ball Cleaner

Golf balls go through a lot, from rough patches to sand traps and even underwater if you’re unlucky enough.

To keep the accumulated dirt from getting into your bag and home, it’s important to clean your golf ball after every game.

This 3D printed golf ball cleaner is an easy and portable way to do just that. Every part of the cleaner is designed to be 3D printed without supports, including separate brushes that can be reprinted for easy replacement.

You will need a few extra pieces for post-processing and assembly, including acetone and super glue, but you should have no trouble putting this very handy golf accessory using the designer’s simple instructions.

5. Golf Ball Pick-Up

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: DIYUPGRADES
 • Price: $2.50
Golf Ball Grabber

This 3D printed golf accessory is a personal one for me. My mother is a very avid golfer but has recently developed arthritis, which is why this list entry is going to be my Christmas present to her this year.

The simple grip is designed to go onto the end of a putter so you can easily scoop up your ball when you’re finished with a hole without needing to bend down or use your hands.

It will need support settings to print correctly, but the total print time should take no longer than 4 hours even if you use the recommended 100% infill settings.

For something a little simpler, you might also like this golf ball retriever designed to attach to a stick for easy scooping.

6. Multiple Golf Ball and Tee Holder

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Cosmo Starke
 • Price: Free
3D Printed Golf Accessory Ball and Tee Holder

If you’re tired of rummaging through the various pockets of your golf bag, then you’ll appreciate this handy ball and tee holder.

It’s designed to attach to any golf bag so you can easily find your equipment, and it’s large enough to hold your fellow players’ things too, fitting up to 3 golf balls and 4 tees.

For the best results, this golf accessory should be 3D printed with supports using PETG, This lightweight filament means the clip barely adds any extra weight.

7. 3D Printable Putting Practice

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: GARCIA_FEDERICO
 • Price: $3.28
3D Printable Golf Game Practice

All golfers need their practice to improve performance, and this 3D printed practice set is perfect for getting your putting just right before you hit the links.

It’s also a neat way to get your kids into the game by practicing with them at home.

All parts are included in the files, including the miniature flag, and each one is designed to be printed in PLA at 200℃ – so you don’t need to alter your settings between prints.

8. Simple 3D Printable Golf Tees

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: PROFESSOR _MAKER
 • Price: Free
Golf Tees

These 3D printed tees are simple, no-frills accessories that can be printed in any color you like. However you’ll probably want to stick to TPU to make sure they can withstand being struck with your club for as long as possible.

9. Kids Golf Cub

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Floern
 • Price: Free
Golf Club Kids Homemade

If you’re looking to get any kids in your life to become the next Tiger Woods, what better way to get them interested than by 3D printing a golf club designed to be exactly right for them?

10. Honorable Mention: 3D Printed Mini Golf Sets

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: DNAdesigns
 • Price: Free

Mini golf (also called putt-putt or crazy golf) has been a family pastime for over a century now, and it’s easy to see why.

While we can’t show you how to 3D print an entire mini golf course by yourself (at least not in such a small segment), we can show you this mini mini golf toy that’s fun for all ages.

Each design in this collection is print-in-place, support-free, and completely free of charge! So there’s no reason not to check them out and give them a go today.

They’re fun as both desk toy or an addition to a child’s toy collection.

 • Designer: fafabienman
 • Price: Free

If you use both AA and AAA batteries regularly, then this 3D printed battery dispenser is the perfect print for you. It holds up to 20 AA and 35 AAA batteries at once, so one refill should keep your electronics up and running for a good long while.

The designer improved on the original design by adding a steeper slope for more reliable dispensing, and it no longer need rafts or supports for printing.

7. Magazine Battery Dispenser

For something a little more decorative, you can check out this cool 3D printed battery dispenser shaped like a standard gun magazine. And just like a real magazine, the batteries automatically lift when one is removed for easy access to however many you need at any time.

You will need a spring to ensure efficient dispensing, and due to its elongated shape, you should be sure to add supports before printing.

8. Efficient Micro Battery Dispenser

 • Download: AA and AAA versions on Thingiverse
 • Designer: verdrus
 • Price: Free

If you need to store many batteries at once but don’t want to take up a lot of desk space, then you’ll find these efficient 3D printed battery holders and dispensers to be the ideal given their small size and efficient storage.

The internal winding shelves allow for up to 17 AA or 25 AAA batteries to be held at once and easily accessed at any time.

If you want to print both of these dispensers, neither require rafts nor supports and both will print perfectly if done with 30% infill.

9. Battery Vending Machine

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: DEHAPRO
 • Price: $4.50

The battery vending machine is the most creative and fun 3D printed battery dispenser on this list. It looks like an actual vending machine, and operates by turning a small dial on the side that allows the batteries to pop out.

Despite apparently being the most complex Dehapro design to date, it’s still a print-in-place model that doesn’t need any extra settings or fancy assembly techniques. You shouldn’t be discouraged if you’re a novice, as just about anyone can make it.

10. Honorable Mention: Combo 9V Battery, Business Card, and Sticker Dispenser

Of all the different 3D printed battery holders and dispensers we’ve looked at, this one is by far the most versatile of the lot. It’s capable of dispensing not only 9V batteries, but also business cards and stickers.

This makes it perfect for expos and conventions. Nothing sells a business like a freebie, so why not keep this project in your back pocket the next time you’re looking to draw some attention to your home business or services?

You will need a few extra bits and pieces, and the patience to assemble it all. But everything you’ll need to make this project a success is already listed along with the free STL files.

It is worth noting that the designer recommends PETG filament due to its added flexibility, though it should work with other filaments provided you’re careful with your settings to accommodate for any increased fragility.

10 Cool 3D Printable Cat Toys to Keep Them Entertained https://www.3dsourced.com/printables/3d-printed-cat-toys/ Fri, 22 Dec 2023 12:25:23 +0000 https://www.3dsourced.com/?p=40258 Read more]]> 3D printed cat toys can add a world of fun and distraction for your furry friend, adding a personal touch for both you and your pet cat that store-bought options don’t offer.

Any cat owner will tell you how much personality cats have, and not every toy will work for every cat.

Top Picks

My Favorite 3D Prints for Feline Freinds

 1. Simple Ball Toy: A beginner-friendly, ball-like toy that’s perfect for chasing.
 2. Parametric Track: Fascinates cats with its endless rolling fun, customizable to various sizes.
 3. Food-Dispensing Toy: Combines playtime with treat time.
 4. Interactive Toy: An electronic, moving toy that stimulates a cat’s hunting instincts.
 5. Puzzle Feeder: Shaped like an egg, rolling unpredictably to keep cats mentally stimulated.
 6. Catoku Toy: A clever, sudoku-inspired treat-hiding game.
 7. Slow Feeder Toy: An engaging game that slows down eating.
 8. Fishing Rod Toy: Best for interactive play, fostering bonding between cat and owner.
 9. Wobbly Toy: A modular, wobbly toy filled with treats or catnip.
 10. Peg Playboard: A versatile playboard that caters to cats of all sizes.

This is where 3D printing can help you add to your cat’s toy collection with unique and fun prints, from fishing rod prints to food puzzle toy designs.

Each toy is more creative and significantly cheaper than those found in stores, and most of the ones we’ll see today are completely free!

1. Simple 3D Printed Cat Toys

This simple toy is perfect for anyone with limited build space or 3D printing experience. It’s the size of a ping pong ball and, so long as you make sure there’s a smaller ball inside, your cat will wear away its zoomies batting the little thing around.

Its print-in-place design means you can easily make it without needing to stop at any point to tweak the settings. The only real thing to keep in mind is that the circular structure doesn’t have a base, so you will want to program supports before printing to ensure it stays where it should.

2. Parametric Track Cat Toy

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: Zippitybamba
 • Price: Free

3D printed cat toys don’t come more popular than the parametric toy – but they’re frustratingly expensive they can be for what is essentially a circular piece of plastic.

This free design adopts the entertaining properties of centrifugal force that cats simply don’t seem to get enough of.

Simply print the design, toss in a ping pong ball, and watch your furry friend spend hours on end hitting the ball and watching in apparent confusion as the ball doesn’t roll straight away as expected.

The design is fully scalable in OpenSCAD or similar software, so you can change its size as much as you like provided your printer can handle the chosen size.

3. Food-Dispensing Cat Toy

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: Brian Enigma
 • Price: Free

There’s no better way to keep a cat interested in its toy than including food. This easy but very effective toy is a great distraction for your feline friend if you fill it with different-sized treats and let your pet go for it!

The design comes as three different printed parts so you can fill it with treats before fully assembling it, so you can use different filaments to match colors or make it as garish as you like to further captivate your cat.

4. Interactive Toy

If you’re in the mood for something more complicated, and don’t mind a bit of electrical engineering, then you’ve probably found the 3D printed cat toys we’ve looked at so far to be a bit simple. Don’t worry, because this interactive cat toy is sure to scratch that itch.

The moving structure scrambles around freely as your cat interacts with it to appease its hunting instincts. Overall, this is a great toy for those of you with cats who are bored of the same old bat-around toys that just aren’t entertaining like they used to.

Some parts do need to be printed multiple times, and supports are important. Fortunately, the full instructions from print to wiring are available for free on Instructables.

5. 3D Printed Cat Puzzle Feeder

3D printed cat toys are great for keeping your cat distracted, and that’s why 3D printing a food puzzle toy is a particularly good idea. They keep your cat entertained and drawn to the toy thanks to the enticement of an edible reward.

While you won’t need supports for this print, the designer does warn that there are some overhangs that you should be prepared to tackle for the best results. But the true genius of this design is the egg shape, which rolls more unexpectedly than a standard sphere to further keep your cat on its toes and playful.

6. Catoku Toy Project

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: GRILLINMUFFINS
 • Price: $1

This 3D printed cat toy is inspired by the popular sudoku game found in just about every newspaper since 2004. The square playing field is designed for you to hide a treat underneath one of the tiles to compel your cat to move the printed parts around to find their reward.

As 3D printed cat toys go, the catoku toy project is a very creative one, and it’s a lot easier to make than you might think. Both the board and its pieces only need 8% infill density to make sure they’re light and easy to move.

Assembly can be a little tricky, which is why the designer has included bullet-pointed instructions to make sure the parts fit well together but can also be easily pushed around so your cat can solve the puzzle without issue.

7. Slow Cat Feeder Toy

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Henry
 • Price: Free

3D printed cat toys can be more than just fun for your cat; they can also be used to control and reduce overeating. So while not technically a toy, this feeder is a great – and responsible – addition to your cat’s toy collection.

This 3D printed feeder has multiple parts that must be precisely measured and assembled to ensure they survive your cat’s swipes. To ensure the best results, be sure to follow the designer’s clear instructions, as outlined along with the free STL files.

8. Cat Fishing Rod Toy

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: vjapolitzer
 • Price: Free

Fishing rods are some of the most popular cat toys because they allow you to actively play with your furry friend, instead of just tossing them a ping pong ball and watching them go.

However, these fishing rod toys can often cost over $10, and they break pretty easily. So this designer has come up with his own 3D printed fishing rod so you can play with your cat until at least one of you gets tired.

The winderbase model will need supports, but aside from that this is a really simple print for just about anybody. Each of the other 13 printed parts are easy, small prints that any 3D printer can manage.

So as long as you follow the designer’s detailed instructions included with the files, you should have no trouble 3D printing this fun fishing rod toy for you and your cat.

9. Wobbly Toy

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: GREANBEANZ
 • Price: $2

3D printed cat toys are best when they’re keeping your cat interested and focussed, and so this modular wobbly 3D printed toy is one of the best designs on this list.

The toy is made even more enticing if you fill the model with different-sized treats or some catnip to keep your cat batting away to try to get what’s inside.

It’s worth noting that each lid will require at least 60% infill so the toy stays top-heavy, allowing it to return to its upright position when knocked as intended.

10. Peg Playboard For Cats

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Magda j
 • Price: Free

This cat playing board has been remixed and updated multiple to make sure you’re getting the best 3D printed cat toy for your pet.

It even comes in two different sizes for cats above or below 6kg in weight, meaning you can print the smaller version for your new kitten, and 3D print a new one as the little friend grows up.

The design allows for endless customization, reinforcement, improvement, and remixing if you’re in the mood to try your hand at making something a little more unique.

10+ Cool 3D Printable Space Marines (Warhammer Miniatures) https://www.3dsourced.com/printables/3d-printed-space-marines-warhammer/ Fri, 22 Dec 2023 12:14:43 +0000 https://www.3dsourced.com/?p=40245 Read more]]> 3D printed Space Marines are an excellent way to add to your next Warhammer 40k game or even just great home decorations for fans of the multimedia franchise at a much cheaper price than buying official models.

While we’ve already chosen our picks for the best Warhammer 40k 3D prints, here we’re going to focus on the coolest STL files for the face of the franchise, Space Marines.

Top Picks

My Favorite 3D Printed Space Marines

 1. 3D Printed Dredge Marine: Dive into deep-sea warfare with this narwhal-patterned Dredge Marine, complete with a torpedo launcher.
 2. Chaos Marine: Embrace the dark side with this menacing heretic warrior.
 3. Samurai Space Marine: Blends traditional armor with sci-fi elements.
 4. Blood Angels: Iconic class renowned for melee and aerial combat prowess.
 5. Space Marine Traitor: Fearsome model epitomizing dread.
 6. Arc Trooper: A crossover delight merging Star Wars with Warhammer.
 7. Doom Guy: A video game legend brought to life as a minifigure.
 8. Buzz Lightyear Space Marine: Toy Story meets Warhammer in this unexpected fusion.
 9. Scooby Doo Space Marine: An amusing and well-crafted Scooby Doo Space Marine, adding a humorous twist to any Warhammer collection.
 10. Space Marine AirPod Holder: A practical and fun Warhammer-themed accessory.

So whether you want to print new miniatures to add to your growing army or simply want some unique new home décor to show off your fandom, you’ll find the best Space Marine 3D prints in this list to suit your purposes and tastes.

Warhammer Space Marines You Can 3D Print

1. 3D Printed Dredge Marine

3D Printed Space Marines

Underwater combat is the Dredge Marine’s specialty, which is why this awesome 3D printed Space Marine cleverly uses the old diving helmet look from the 19th and 20th centuries to add to the creepy, archaic look.

This model is beautifully detailed with the narwhal pattern these marines are known for and includes a torpedo launcher to compliment the deep-sea combat motif.

The STL files come in two different variations, one with supports already programmed so you can get printing right away, and one with no supports so you can add your own if you’re confident that you can improve printing efficiency yourself.

2. Chaos Marine

 • Download: Gambody
 • Designer: Noah J.
 • Price: $9.74
Demonic Space Marine

Those of you who prefer the more demonic side of the Warhammer lore will certainly recognize this Chaos Space Marine figure. These heretic warriors’ brutal close combat techniques are well detailed in the model’s gore-riddled outfit which, if painted carefully after printing, will make for an intimidating minifigure.

For more information on how to get this, and all other, 3D printed Space Marines looking as good as the picture above, you can find all the information you need in our detailed guides for the best printers, resins, and filaments for just this purpose!

3. Samurai Space Marine

 • Download: CGTrader
 • Designer: Jimsbeanz
 • Price: $6.95
3D Printed Samurai Miniature

Samurai Space Marines blend the ancient with the new for a retro yet modern take on the sci-fi epic that is Warhammer 40k. While there are plenty of different styles to choose from, the superb detail on this print is what earned it a spot on this list.

This 3D printed Samurai Space Marine is designed to be printed in a higher-resolution quality usually only resin printers can manage. However that doesn’t mean you can’t also print it with an FDM printer too.

For more information, you can check out our complete guide on resin vs. FDM printing for miniatures.

4. Blood Angels

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: THE_MOD
 • Price: Free
3DP SM

Those of you who’ve played Warhammer for a long time will no doubt know just how significant Blood Angel Space Marines are, and if this founding legion is one of your top picks, then you’ll love this 3D printed Blood Angel model.

While better known for their melee and aerial combat training, these STL files include a mounted gun to further show their diverse tactics.

The files are free of charge because they are a rescaling of an original model. While this means you don’t have to pay for it, you may find yourself in hot water if you try to sell your creation for a profit. To learn more about the legality of making money with such projects, you can check out our guide on whether or not you can sell your 3D printed miniatures.

5. Space Marine Traitor

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: CULT_OF_ATARI
 • Price: $3.26
Cult of Atari Collection Example

Building on the Chaos Space Marines, the Traitors are well known and feared across the Warhammer 40k universe, and this model is an excellent, high-quality model from noted designer Cult_of_Atari, whose collection includes just about anything someone 3D printing Warhammer could want.

The model was designed with support settings included for optimum results. Just be advised that, like many 3D printed miniature models, this one was also made and uploaded with resin printing in mind. So if you’re printing with an FDM printer, then be sure to carefully go over your slicer settings to make sure the model comes out just right.

Non-Warhammer 3D Printed Space Marines

3D printing Space Marines means exercising creativity and expanding your Warhammer collections beyond what Games Workshop is officially allowed to do.

Many 3D print designers have taken to combining their interests and exercising their freedom to stretch their creative wings when it comes to 3D printing new models for Space Marines, and here are some of my favorites.

6. Arc Trooper

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: DAELYNARCH
 • Price: Free
3D Printed Arc Trooper Marines Star Wars

Star Wars fans also being Warhammer enthusiasts is not hard to believe, as both are space operas about seemingly endless galactic struggles that are considered classics in their genre. So it’s equally unsurprising that the Arc Trooper of Clone Wars fame can also be 3D printed as a minifigure.

The files are free not only because of the copyright implications, but also because the designer describes themselves as inexperienced in designing. Because of this, you shouldn’t assume that the files are fully optimized for any printer. So I highly recommend double-checking everything in your modeling and slicer software before hitting the print button.

7. Doom Guy

 • Download: MyMiniFactory
 • Designer: Printed Obsession
 • Price: Free
3D Printed DOOM Guy Space Marine

Warhammer may have cornered the market in Space Marine icons, but that didn’t stop world famous videogame Doom from creating their brand of galactic brutes ten years after Warhammer first came out.

Despite the lackluster name, ‘Doom Guy’ remains a videogame icon over 30 years since we first saw him, and that’s why this model is a must-have if you’re as much a fan of retro videogaming as you are of the tabletop games.

8. Buzz Lightyear 3D Printed Space Marine

 • Download: CGTrader
 • Designer: nala09
 • Price: $13.99
3D Printed Buzz Lightyear Warhammer

Before I started making this list, I didn’t really think of Toy Story’s Buzz Lightyear as a space marine either, but it does make sense if you think about it. That’s why it’s also understandable that designer nala09 combined the talking toy with the brutal Space Marines from Warhammer to make something unique to say the least.

The model is unsliced so you will need to upload it into whichever slicer software you use to prepare it for printing. Unfortunately, the designer hasn’t included any detailed instructions to get ideal results, so you may find this model to take a bit of trial and error with your own settings.

9. Scooby Doo 3D Printed Space Marine

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: Trapjawdad
 • Price: Free
Scooby Doo Space Marine

I didn’t see this one coming either. The Scooby Doo Space Marine was a somewhat random find, but one I couldn’t help but talk about. Born from either boredom or some kind of fever dream, this model is well put together and makes for a humorous addition to any Warhammer fan’s collection.

The parts are all printed separately and attached, so you’re free to customize it or add different weapons or appendages as you see fit. While it shouldn’t need rafts, you will need supports for each piece to make sure the model doesn’t fail.

Honorable Mention: 3D Printed Space Marine AirPod Holder

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: PABLOCASOTO
 • Price: $1.08
3D Printed AirPod Holder Miniature Warhammer

In my recent article where I looked at the best 3D printed AirPod cases, I somehow managed to overlook this little gem. This combination of 3D printed Space Marine and AirPod holder is a great project or gift for Warhammer fans who also need somewhere cool to keep their AirPods safe.

The STL files are optimized and split so you can print this practical Space Marine as either one full piece (with or without the base), or as seperate pieces to be assembled post-print. This means the full, usable miniature is accessible to anyone, regardless of 3D printer size or capability.

10 Spooky 3D Printable Skulls STL Files for 2024 https://www.3dsourced.com/printables/3d-printed-skulls/ Fri, 22 Dec 2023 12:00:09 +0000 https://www.3dsourced.com/?p=40135 Read more]]> 3D printed skulls come in a lot of shapes and sizes, from macabre figures to Halloween decorations and even jewelry, from the simple to the complex.

Top Picks

My Favorite 3D Printed Skulls

 1. Realistic 3D Printed Skull: Ideal for educational purposes or as a unique decor piece.
 2. Oogie Boogie Dice Tower: Bring The Nightmare Before Christmas to life.
 3. Skull Lamp: A macabre yet functional lighting solution.
 4. Skull Ashtray: Use an eye socket as your cigar holder.
 5. Skull Planter: Add a daring twist to your plant decor.
 6. Skull Mask: A chilling Halloween costume.
 7. T-Rex Skull: A detailed piece great for classrooms.
 8. Grim Fandango Lighter Case: Featuring Manny Calavera, a nod to Día de los Muertos culture.
 9. Skull Keycaps: Customize your gaming setup with these designs.
 10. Cubone Skull: For Pokémon aficionados.

1. Realistic 3D Printed Skull

This 3D printed skull is a simple yet very well-detailed project with free STL files for anyone to download, make, and enjoy. The well-defined features are thanks to 3D scanning, so yes, we are beginning this list with a model based on an actual human skull!

The design is deceptively easy to print and assemble, and MakerBot allows for free remixing, so you can either print, assemble, and display it as it is, or use it as a base for a more creative project if you want to experiment and expand your 3D printing repertoire.

2. Oogie Boogie Dice Tower

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: CLUGSTON519
 • Price: Free
Oogie Boogie Dice Tower

Continuing this list with my personal favorite, this 3D printed skull and skeleton inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas villain Oogie Boogie’s lair was featured in our article on 3D printed dice towers.

The recognizable Tim Burton aesthetic from my favorite film can be achieved by any 3D printer, though it has some balancing issues due to being so top-heavy. To keep it upright, we recommend increasing the size and infill of the base in your slicer settings before printing.

3. Skull Lamp

There are a lot of options out there for 3D printed lamps, and it’s not surprising that this 3D printed skull lamp has attracted a lot of attention. The mesh design allows enough light to pass through to make it an effective light source, making it ideal as a safer, fire-free alternative to a jack-o-lantern.

Because it’s designed for lighting, the skull lamp requires 0% infill. While this does make it more brittle, it also allows for a much more impressive lighting effect that’ll impress Halloween guests and year-round fans of the macabre alike.

3D Printed Skulls

For a similar 3D printed skull lamp with more detail, you can also check out this hollow 3D printed Celtic skull for a more intricate lighting effect.

4. Skull Ashtray

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: RobertusMaximus
 • Price: Free
3D Printed Skull Ashtray

This cigar ashtray was featured in our article on the coolest 3D printed ashtrays, and it’s easy to see why. The awesome cut-off look and creative use of the eye socket as a cigar holder make this one spooky addition to your living room.

It’s fully ready to be resized as you like to become a regular cigarette ashtray too, and so can be printed on 3D printers as small as a Prusa Mini, which has a build size of only 180 x 180 x 180mm.

Just be warned that cigarettes and cigars can burn up to 500℃ when idle, so it’s best to print this model in PETG or ABS, both of which can withstand more heat than standard PLA and so won’t warp or melt as easily.

5. Skull Planter

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Uncle Jessy
 • Price: Free

3D printed planters are a fantastic way to keep your houseplants safe and fed while avoiding the extortionate costs of store-bought pots and vases in garden centers.

To add to your collection, why not check out this hanging 3D printed skull planter from the free STL files?

Requiring no supports and available with or without drain holes, this is the perfect 3D printed skull for your home or garden for anyone to print. It’s easily scalable and can be printed in one piece. Just be sure to print it upside down as per the included instructions to make sure it stays put during the printing process.

6. 3D Printed Skull Mask

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: Bob Stuntsville
 • Price: Free
3D Printed Skull Mask

If you’re looking for an exciting take on a classic Halloween costume, then this is the perfect project for you. This 3D printed skull mask is designed with a jaw that moves along with your own mouth to complete the full ‘living dead’ look.

Before printing, you will need to make sure the size is right for your own face and you have adequate fasteners so the mask stays in place, but loose enough to still be comfortable.

Best of all, this 3D printed mask is even designed to be comfortable to wear if you have glasses, so bespectacled Halloween fans need not feel left out.

7. T-Rex Skull

This 3D printed t-rex skull was designed for use in classrooms, but it can also be a really cool home decoration for any fans of paleontology out there. Because it was designed as an educational too, the detailing is carefully curated to be as accurate as possible.

The STL files even come with a detailed lesson plan if you’re planning on using this 3D printed dinosaur skull to teach.

With over 1000 makes and a very easy print-in-place design, it’s easy to see why this 3D printed skull has ben printed, remixed, and repurposed by many dinosaur fans around the world.

If you’d rather 3D print the skull of a lesser-known dinosaur, you can check out our pick for the coolest 3D printed heterodontosaurus skull along with other similar builds in our picks for the top 3D printed dinosaurs.

8. Grim Fandango Lighter Case

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: SALVADOR_LIMONES
 • Price: $3
3D Printed Grim Fandango Manny Lighter Case

Fans of the cult classic puzzle and adventure game Grim Fandango will instantly recognize the Día de los Muertos-inspired head of main character Manuel ‘Manny’ Calavera, whose surname literally means ‘Skull’ in Spanish.

This 3D printed cartoon-esque skull is designed to fit a standard Bic lighter, and fits easily over it as a unique case that players of the eerie yet whimsical game will enjoy. It also means you’ll never lose track of which lighter is yours on a night out again!

It’s a very small print and so doesn’t need much filament to print, making it a great little project if you happen to have just a little filament left over from your last project.

9. Skull Keycaps

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: braga3dprint
 • Price: Free

If you happen to be a PC gamer then you may have already experimented with 3D printing your own keycaps.

If so, then you might want to check out these really cool 3D printed skull keycaps designed to be printed in either high-resolution or low-poly depending on both your preference and 3D printer’s capability.

Supports are required regardless of which variation you go for, and a layer height of no more than 0.1mm is best for optimal results. Fortunately, the best settings for each of these skull keycaps are well laid out in the link above.

10. Honorable Mention: 3D Printed Cubone Skull

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: bluridium
 • Price: Free

It just wouldn’t be a 3DSourced article by me if I didn’t involve something for my fellow Pokémon fans out there. And so, this honorable mention spot goes to the famously tragic figure of Gen 1 Pokémon; Cubone.

Famously wearing the skull of its dead mother, slain in the cannon by the notorious Team Rocket, any Pokémon fan will recognize the look of this heartbreakingly sad Pokémon youngling.

Despite the cool detail and faithful shape, the 3D printed Cubone skull doesn’t require rafts or supports, and can be printed with only 10% infill, so it won’t use up too much filament.

This 3D printed headset stand is a great addition to any gamer’s desk, fitting in perfectly with the black and lit-up keyboards and mice seen in many modern PC gaming setups. The tall structure makes it perfect as a display piece as well as somewhere to safely store your headphones when not in use.

The creator has even marked this design for full remixing and customization, and has allowed for sharing or even selling your version of this headphone stand as long as you credit the original.

If you want something more detailed than the simple headphone stands we’ve looked at so far, then you’ll want to check out this collection by well-known, versatile 3D print designer 3DPrintBunny.

The collection features a host of 3D printed headphone stands inspired by a variety of recognizable IPs, at least one of which is sure to jump out at you. From Star Wars to Minecraft and the Star Trek headphone stand in the video above, each of these designs is available on Printables free of charge.

5. Anti-Clutter Desk Headset Holder

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: philbarrenger
 • Price: Free

Desks can get cluttered pretty easily, especially if you spend a lot of time at yours. This very simple vice-like 3D printed headphone holder is a great way to keep your headphones safe while also keeping them off your workstation.

This is great for those of you who need to keep plenty of other things like books and tech on your desk, or simply don’t have the space for a more traditional headphone stand.

This design is strong enough even with only 15% infill, making it an economic choice if you don’t want to use too much filament. It’s also a simple model to both print and assemble, using very little engineering to make an easy but very useful 3D printed headphone holder.

6. 3D Printed Headphone Statue Stand

Just because 3D printed headphone stands need to be practical, there’s no reason they can’t look cool too. This design combines form and function, using a statue-like standing design that reinforces the stand to hold even heavier headphones.

Due to the complex shape, you will need supports to make this work, the ideal settings for which are fortunately outlined in the free STL files.

Please note that this is a rather large 3D printed headphone stand, so you’ll want to make sure your printer has a build plate of at least 200 x 200 x 200mm for optimum results.

7. 3D Printed Batman Headset Stand

Batman fans rejoice, this 3D printed headphone stand features the silhouette of the titular dark knight that any DC fan will recognize and love. Designed to be a simple, but fairly large, headphone stand, it makes a great addition to any comic book reader’s desk provided you have enough space.

Despite its hollow appearance, this headphone stand is capable of securely holding even heavier headphones provided it’s printed with at least 25% infill. Because of its size and detail, it takes around 6 hours to print, so make sure you start this project earlier in your day.

8. Vertebranium Spinal Cord Headphone Stand

 • Download: MyMiniFactory
 • Designer: ClockSpring
 • Price: $3.90 (Free if Patreon Subscriber)

One of the coolest, and a little macabre, entries on this list is the Vertebranium headphone stand, a 3D printed holder that’s also a large fidget toy. Using a string of 3D printed hinges, the clever design is articulated when lifted but folds into a sturdy curved shape with a headphone holder at its tip.

Despite its large size, this 3D printed headphone stand doesn’t need supports provided it’s printed on its side. However, a print of this size will naturally require a larger build area of at least 205 x 203mm and is not designed to be easily scaled, so it’s best to make sure your printer is big enough for the task.

You can find more information and printing tips on the designer’s Patreon page.

9. Funny Headphone Stand

 • Designer: FRISSON3D
 • Price: $3.28
Funny 3D Printed Headphone Stand

If you’ve found the headphone stands to be too minimalist for your liking, then maybe you’ll like this funny, Picasso-inspired stand instead. Its fun, colorful, and kitsch design is perfect for those of you who want a 3D printed headphone holder that’s just the right amount of whacky.

Each part of this stand is printed separately and designed to lock together for easy assembly, meaning you can print this project in multiple, clashing colors even without a dual extruder!

10. Customizable Headphone & Controller Stand

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Colin J Haynes
 • Price: Free
Headphone and Controller Stand for Gamers

If you’re a PC gamer, you might want to check out these STL files which are perfect for holding both headphones and a controller simultaneously.

The print is far from complex, needing only super glue to put it together, and the design includes enough space to put your name, gamer tag, or anything else you’d like to print separately and stick to the finished model.

10+ 3D Printable Articulated Animals STL Files https://www.3dsourced.com/printables/3d-printed-articulated-animals/ Fri, 22 Dec 2023 11:02:49 +0000 https://www.3dsourced.com/?p=40105 Read more]]> 3D printing articulated animals is more complex than making simple statues or static toys, but these projects’ free movement and fun poses make it worthwhile.

With the right design and carefully measured segments that attach, 3D printing articulated animal toys is a fun and rewarding experience for all ages.

Articulated Animals

Here’s some of the coolest and most interesting examples from across the internet – from frogs to octopi, even dragons, of 3D printed articulated animals. Each comes with an STL file download, all of which are either cheap or completely free.

Because the thin link connections in articulated models need more precise measurement and careful assembly than static projects, I’ll be prioritizing examples with clear instructions – so anyone can build confidence!

My Favorite Articulated Animals to 3D Print

1. Fish

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: THINAIR3D
 • Price: $3.98

Articulated models of fish are amongst the simplest things to 3D print, with easy models like these that even beginners can manage with no issue. For this segment, we’re looking at this excellently detailed 3D printed articulated koi fish.

Don’t let the high print quality fool you, this is a simple print-in-place model that doesn’t even require support. It also comes in a second variety to strengthen the otherwise brittle whiskers if you plan on playing with it often.

Be advised that this print was designed with a printer no smaller than the Creality Ender 3 in mind, so it may not be suitable for printers with a build size of less than 220 x 220 x 250mm.

2. Articulated Frog

Frogs are adorable creatures, and if you agree with that then you’ll love this creative 3D printed articulated gemstone frog designed by noted creator of cute 3D prints, Cinderwing.

While the print doesn’t require supports, the designer recommends using rafts or brims if you’ve had trouble with first-layer adhesion in past prints. It’s also worth noting that this design is copyrighted, so if you plan on selling your prints of this adorable articulated frog, you will need Cinderwing’s permission, for which she asks for a Patreon subscription.

3. 3D Printable Articulated Octopus

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: MCGYBEER
 • Price: Free

This cute 3D printed mini octopus is the perfect print for those of you who want something simple and cute that still yields impressive results.

Despite being articulated, this octopus model is designed to be printed in one piece and needs neither support nor assembly to make it in its default size. However, you will need supports if you plan on printing them bigger than the included STL files are designed for.

The same designer has a host of other 3D printed articulated animals, including this beaver and the ever-adorable red panda for you to check out. All of their designs are available on their Cults3D page and most of them are under $4.

And if you love this design, why not check out our full comprehensive list of the best 3D printed octopus models?

4. Articulated Dragons

 • Download: 3dptk
 • Price: Free

Dragons, though not real animals, offer an exciting variety for 3D printing enthusiasts interested in mythical creatures.

The link above is my favorite example of the 7 different articulated dragons in the video below ready to 3D print, and there are even more to choose from in our in-depth article on dragons here.

The linked model for the Imperial Dragon STL is deceptively simple. It can be made with just about any 3D printer and the parts are easy to assemble, so just about anyone can manage this impressive print.

5. Articulated Cat

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: Rollerpaw
 • Price: Free

The cat lovers amongst you have likely already seen a lot of 3D printed felines out there, but few are as cute or as easy to print as this articulated cat that wiggles and even folds over domed surfaces.

This is another 3D printed articulated animal that can be printed in one piece with no supports. But due to its small size, it’s a good idea to exercise caution when removing it from the print bed. If it’s adhered too much, try to detach each piece separately instead of all at once so you don’t damage the connecting hinges.

6. Articulated Dog

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Wolffshaut
 • Price: Free
3D Printed Articulated Dog

If you’re more of a dog person, then this 3D printed articulated dog model is an easy, upgraded design with a bigger head and better balance.

Everything from its head to its tail is articulated to wiggle and move, making it a nice desktop ornament to fiddle with in your idle moments.

It prints perfectly in PLA with a nozzle temperature of 220℃, though feel free to experiment with different filaments and settings to see what’s right for you.

7. Flying Sea Turtle

If you’re looking for a 3D printed articulated animal but also want a more mechanical engineering-focused project, then look no further than this creatively designed Flying Sea Turtle.

The design was born from the creator’s passion for environmentalism, both out of awareness of mankind’s effect on turtle life, and admiration for the graceful flight-like movements of a sea turtle in water.

While perfectly functional as an articulated animal all its own, the included designs for a gear-based system allow the animal to move gracefully with a simple turn of the handle.

This 3D printed articulated turtle will take some extra know-how to get right, but with the right raft settings and careful attention to the measurements, you’ll have a really impressive, smoothly moving articulated turtle you can be proud of.

8. 3D Printed Articulated Snake

 • Download: Fab365
 • Designer: Greedy Fox
 • Price: $4.49

The gorgeous design is reminiscent of the articulated crystal dragon, which I count among my favorites, and the detailing is made to look stunning using silky or rainbow filament. However be warned that this filament can be more brittle than standard PLA, so be careful when moving the finished piece around.

The eyes are printed separately and attached to the main model to make it look a little more lifelike, so be sure to save the STL files for those too! It’s also worth noting that this articulated snake was designed for the original Ender, and has a minimum recommended build plate size of 220 x 220mm.

9. Owl

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: FLEXIFACTORY
 • Price: $2.95

3D printed articulated owls normally only have movable heads, which is why I’ve chosen to highlight this fully articulated, flappy model with flexible wings instead by the popular FlexiFactory.

The design is deceptively easy to print, with most of the main body being only one print and no supports needed for it to be ready for assembly and play. With only 4 parts to print overall, you can experiment with different colors and styles to see which one you like best.

10. 3D Printed Articulated Fox

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: FLEXIFACTORY
 • Price: $2.50

Another design from FlexiFactory that I felt deserved a spot is my personal favorite, the cute and lazy 3D printed articulated fox. It’s designed to lie down or stand and makes for a wonderfully detailed toy or desktop fidget piece that any vulpine enthusiast will love.

Like the owl above, the fox is designed with very few parts that print without supports and attach easily, making this an easy print for anyone to try. Just be sure to use a minimum of 20% infill to ensure sturdiness and strength so it can withstand constant play.

21+ Cool 3D Printable GoPro Mounts & Accessories https://www.3dsourced.com/guides/3d-printed-gopro-accessories/ Mon, 23 Oct 2023 10:09:13 +0000 https://www.3dsourced.com/?p=38130 Read more]]> 3D printed GoPro mounts and accessories are much cheaper than store-bought add-ons and make your next recording sessions much easier and more convenient.

Whether you’re looking to film your next road trip or just need a handier way to transport and use your GoPro without paying extortionate amounts for official accessories, then this list of the coolest (and free!) GoPro 3D prints will have something for you.

My Top GoPro 3D Prints

Click any of the links below to be taken to each section:

 • General Use: Handheld mounts, window mounts, chest harnesses, and tripod adapters for portable filming.
 • Vehicles: Car, bike, drone, and surfboard mounts to capture travels hands-free.
 • Accessories: Underwater frames, storage cases, photo filters, phone mounts and more.

GoPro 3D Prints for General Use

1. GoPro Knuckles

Since GoPros are effectively micro-cameras, they can be uncomfortable to operate by hand if used as a standard filming device. That’s why this designer came up with a knuckle duster-style handle. This makes filming on the go much easier, and since the mount is printed with 100% infill and attached with a 3D printed screw, the mount is as secure as your fist.

The only real problem with this design is that it is effectively a knuckle duster, also known as ‘brass knuckles’, which are considered illegal weapons in some countries and states. So be sure to know your own area’s laws before printing.

2. Mini Handheld Mount

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: stevehlau
 • Price: Free
GoPro Hand Mount

This handheld GoPro mount is a fantastic and practical alternative. It’s a very simple design, needing only 20% infill to be perfectly usable and sturdy, though you will need to print or buy a screw separately to make sure the GoPro is secure enough for general use.

3. Tripod/Handle Hybrid

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: FREDRICKHAMREBJORKDESIGNS
 • Price: Free
Tripod 3

Using a clever 3D printed hinge mechanism, this useful handheld GoPro grip doubles as a tripod to keep your GoPro steady. This makes it perfect for hiking and camping videos, vlogging, and just about anything else that requires you to set down and pick up your GoPro repeatedly.

3D Printed GoPro Tripod

You’ll only need one screw to hold it together, and an optional shoelace or other string to make it easily portable.

4. GoPro Window Mount

 • Download: GoEngineer (link downloads automatically)
 • Designer: goengineer
 • Price: Free

If you use your GoPro as a security camera or just want to livestream something interesting going on in your yard, then you’re going to need a reliable window mount for your GoPro so it stays at a good height while filming.

This design can be mounted and dismounted easily, and the mount itself doesn’t cover any of the buttons so you can still easily operate your GoPro even when it’s secured to your window.

5. GoPro Underwater Scuba Frame

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: rickcavanaugh
 • Price: Free
3D Printed GoPro Scuba

Diving enthusiasts and swimmers out there are probably wondering how you ever truly lived without your waterproof GoPro, though using yours underwater without any extra equipment can be unwieldy and frustrating.

This 3D printed GoPro scuba frame is perfect for those of you who like to dive deep and want to get footage of even the darkest parts of your oceanic exploration. With the latest updates, your GoPro and the attached lights can be adjusted and controlled with just a few finger movements, so you’ll never need to let go of the handlebars.

6. GoPro Chest Harness

This design for a 3D printed chest harness is the perfect way to record your next outdoor treks, and it fits snuggly if attached to a good belt made of nylon webbing or better.

Be advised that the mount itself is designed for a Hero 3 sized GoPro, so you may need to use your slicer to adjust the size if you use a different model.

7. Mini Tripod Adapter

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: functionaldiyer
 • Price: Free

This very simple 3D printed attachment converts a standard tripod to make it suitable for a GoPro.

It’s an easy print that requires no rafts or supports, but you will need to scale it to around 1000% in your slicer before printing.

8. Quick-Release GoPro Plate Adapter

 • Download: Cults3D
 • Designer: CREATIVETOOLS
 • Price: Free

This Hama-compatible 3D printed tripod mount is the choice for Hama tripod users who want to securely attach your GoPro to it.

Its quick release system makes it easy to snap into place and remove as needed. And while the STL files don’t come with clear instructions, you can print this with confidence thanks to the screenshots the designer has uploaded of their design software showing the ins and outs of the print.

9. Backpack Strap Attachment

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: Nicrombious
 • Price: Free

This 3D printed GoPro mount is perhaps the most storied of our entries here. Designed for a trip to Nepal, this 3D printed shoulder mount was strong enough to survive a trip up Mount Everest!

The design is simple, with no problematic settings or complicated parts, though you will need to adjust it in your slicer to suit your backpack’s strap to ensure your GoPro stays attached and as still as possible.

GoPro 3D Prints for Vehicles

10. Tiny GoPro Drone

 • Download: Thingiverse
 • Designer: attackemartin
 • Price: Free

The goal for this 3D printed GoPro mount was to make something small enough to act as a miniature drone, but tough enough to hold a naked GoPro securely while airborne. All-in-all, the finished design with a standard GoPro 6 attached weighs less than 50g (under 2 ounces).

This is a working drone, so it’s going to be a long project despite its tiny size. You’ll need a few extra resources like batteries, wires, screws, and a motor, but everything you’ll need is well listed along with the detailed instructions on Thingiverse.

11. Tough Skateboard Mount

Skateboard videos are all the rage on sites like YouTube and TikTok, but the fast speed and balance needed to perform tricks makes using a handheld camera prohibitively tricky.

This design was rigorously prototyped to make a skateboard-ready GoPro mount that can handle shock and falls thanks to its improved infill settings and use of tough TPU filament.

Everything you need to 3D print and assemble this great design is thoroughly laid out in the link above, along with some example videos to make sure your print is as smooth as your footage.

12. Universal Drone Mount

3D Printed GoPro Drone

While many drones are camera-ready, they’re not all designed to securely hold a GoPro when in flight. This universal mount for a GoPro 5, 6, or 7 is designed to work with various drones so you can get some really cool footage of your drone’s flight without worrying about your expensive camera falling to the ground.

The screw holes are included in the print, and no adjustments should be required if you’re using a standard GoPro, though be advised that you may need to do some tweaking to make sure it fits onto your drone as securely as possible.

13. Adjustable Bike Tripod

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Vidar
 • Price: Free
3D Printed GoPro Accessories

Attaching a GoPro to a bike can be risky, especially if you’re using an inferior mount. Even some store-bought ones can be unreliable, but I found this safe and secure 3D printed GoPro bike mount stays sturdy when the road gets rocky.

With only a few additional screws and an optional spring for easier adjustment, these free STL include a host of 3D printed GoPro bike attachments and accessories you can count on.

14. GoPro Car Attachment

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: flatsizguy
 • Price: Free
Car 2

Using a GoPro on the road is a cool way to get footage of your drives and routes and can provide a crucial service for driving instructors and insurance claimers. This 3D printed GoPro mount is safe and secure, designed to fit onto the rear hooks of some of the most common car brands.

Needing no more than 8 screws, this secure mount will attach easily to your tow hook ready for you to get some rear footage in no time.

15. GoPro Magnet Mount

GoPro Car

Now that we’ve covered attaching a GoPro to the rear of your vehicle, we’ll look at attaching one to the front. This 3D printed magnetic GoPro mount N52 grade magnets to hold your GoPro in place while you film your drive.

It’s designed to be attached with a standard suction cup for easy windscreen adhesion so it can be removed or relocated easily without sacrificing security. Unfortunately, the cup linked along with the files is no longer available, but you can easily find similar ones online.

16. Surfboard Pole Mount

Surf Board Mount

Getting GoPro footage from your surfboard is a great way to show your friends how well you rode the waves. This 3D printed mount is the best design for a surfboard mount, though it is still a work in progress.

You’ll need to make sure you print it with something tough like TPU and use maximum infill. We also recommend rigorously testing it for security before use, since losing a GoPro in the ocean means it’s as good as gone.

Honorable Mentions

17. GoPro Mount for 3D Printer Timelapses

 • Download: Thangs
 • Designer: TheBuildBay
 • Price: Free

3D printing is often a long process, and you can’t be expected to stand there and film the whole thing yourself. If you like to make time lapses of your 3D printing projects, you’re going to want a GoPro mount that’s actually designed to fit onto your printer.

You will need some screws to hold it all together and make sure you account for at least two pauses mid-print to ensure everything lines up correctly. When you’re done, you’ll have a working GoPro mount to make 3D print tutorials or reference videos as you like.

18. GoPro Shoe Mount

 • Download: MyMiniFactory
 • Designer: Aleksander Thuesen
 • Price: Free

3D printing a GoPro mount for your shoes probably wasn’t the first thing to come to mind, but it is a pretty cool way to film your on-foot journeys and record the world from a lesser-seen point of view.

The mount is designed with holes that you can thread your laces through to hold it tight, though you could also use zip-ties if you’re worried that your laces may be too loose. Be advised that the designer recommends only using XT to print this due to its high stability and durability.

19. GoPro Filter Adapter

GoPro Filter

It’s easy to forget that GoPro also has a photo mode, and this filter adapter is perfect for adjusting the filters in this mode in ways the GoPro isn’t designed to do as standard.

It’s a much cheaper and easier alternative to buying one online, though it is primarily designed for a GoPro Hero 8 52mm, so you will need to make some adjustments in your slicer if you use a different model.

20. GoPro Storage Case

 • Download: Printables
 • Designer: Whity
 • Price: Free

If you’re worried that your expensive GoPro will get broken or lost in transit, then you’re going to want to 3D print a good, tough storage box for taking it on the go. This rugged case is designed for GoPro models 9, 10, and 11, and includes slots for the camera itself, SD cards, and a spare battery pack (you can check 3D printable battery holders here).

Depending on the size you want, holding 2 or 4 SD cards, you will need either M3X20 or M3x25 screws to hold it all together. We also recommend getting some foam for the lid for some extra protection, which the model is already designed to accommodate.

21. Float Tripod

Floating GoPro Mount 3D Printed

This float GoPro tripod is an excellent DIY project for beginners or those who just like to use household items to make something new and cool. By attaching just a few soda bottles to the 3D printed mount, you have your own floatable GoPro tripod that you can use to get some candid footage of your local park pond or private swimming pool.

It’s designed for any model GoPro, so you won’t need to change the size at all, though you should avoid using any more than 50% infill so it still floats comfortably. We also recommend still using a waterproof GoPro as the model may still capsize when in use.
